The company management guru, Frederick Herzberg, asked this question over the usual half-century ago. One More Time: What motivates employees? Following is a hint to the answer: It is not money. Truly, it's not about the money. Research proves that the most powerful motivators for employees, the things that keep people working hard for your company, are non-material factors. Matters like autonomy, the ability to control their work. Achievement, the sense that they are contributing directly to progress. Recognition, and also the chance for progress. These are the most effective motivators. I believe that is blessed for non-profits. Because one crucial defining feature of this non-profit industry is that non-profit jobs pay less.

We come to another motivation theory, which some people may say is much better than Maslow. (chuckles)Although possibly not. I devised the management potato, however I think it's fine and I think that it covers a little area that Maslow doesn't cover, interestingly, that can be thanking people. Now where would thanking people come on the Maslow hierarchy? Well, it would make people feel secure really, I think wouldn't it? But it may make them feel a sense of belonging and it make them feel important also. I believe gaining recognition is somewhat like being thanked. I think it's mainly security and status on Maslow hierarchy. I think thanking is very important to self-actualization also, because take for example, if I run a coaching program, I mainly do it to get self-actualization since I want to believe I am making a big difference for those people on the program. But how can I know whether I have made a difference? And if a person thanks mean states, that was great, that's actually helped. I get more self-actualization then.

Residents told to 'stay put' as blaze raged up Grenfell Tower
Residents of London's Grenfell Tower were told to stay in their flats as fire raged throughout the high-rise building nearly one year ago, a professional report has found.
Fire-safety engineer Doctor Barbara Lane explained the fire department's"stay put" coverage was shown to possess"effectively failed" barely 30 minutes to the fire.
